Last night we had a great group of eager, energetic LiON'S LAIR applicants join us at MIP for a Pre-Submission Workshop and Q&A session designed to help explain the process of applying and answer any questions the participants had.
Last year's event was a labour of love for me, so I couldn't wait to share information about LiON'S LAIR 2012 with a room of bright, smiling, slightly nervous people. We kicked things off by viewing the video that Mindy at Tweedle Productions made in Feburary of the 2011 Finalists sharing their experience, then I led a discussion on the submission and selection process, as well as the committments for and expectations of the finalists. We launched into a Question & Answer segment where workshop participants could feel free to clear up any concerns, questions, or hesitations they had - and I was proud to introduce them to Gihan Fonseka (Athelink), Andrew Holden (Weever Apps) and Graeme Smith (Gorilla Cheese) who helped me to answer questions by sharing their experience as finalists last year and telling those at the workshop what it was really like, share their tips, and encourage them to apply this year!
After the Q&A we launched into the workshop portion of the evening, where Tammy led everyone through a workbook designed to help participants think about developing their executive summary, product/service description, market analysis, business planning and strategy, management team profiles, and financial plan. In addition to Tammy, we had a great team of advisers on hand to work one-on-one with workshop participants - Ron, Pete, Robin, and Jim!
